Wednesday, October 3, 2018: Tomorrow it begins...with issues

Tomorrow afternoon I fly out of IAH on a United non-stop to Amsterdam. This morning, Maxine forwarded an email from Tauck stating there is a low water problem on the Danube. Tauck has had daily updates on their web site stating this issue. The email today says that the problem is on "a short stretch of the Danube near Regensburg". Regensburg is at the beginning of our cruise on the Danube after passing through the Maine-Danube Canal about halfway between Nuremberg and Passau.

The original plan was for us to board the ms Treasures in Amsterdam and cruise all the way to Budapest. The Treasures' sister ship, the ms Espirt, sailing the opposite direction from Budapest to Amsterdam. Right now, the Espirt is "stuck" on the stretch between Amsterdam and Regensburg and is currently sailing back to Amsterdam. The Treasures is between Regensburg and Budapest, heading toward Budapest. Tauck says their current intention is for us to start on the Espirt in Amsterdam and cruise to Nuremburg. There we will disembark and transfer over to the Treasures to continue on the Danube to Budapest. Just how much of the Danube we will bypass is not stated.

The Tauck notice continues with the following:

If necessary, your changeover to the ms Treasures will occur in Nuremberg on Day 8. On the evening of Day 7, you will need to pack all of your belongings and settle your shipboard account.

While you’re enjoying your normal sightseeing and other planned activities in Nuremberg on Day 8, your luggage will be transferred to the ms Treasures and left for you in the equivalent cabin (same cabin category, deck and cabin number) on the ms Treasures that you’d enjoyed aboard the ms Esprit. (There may be small differences in color schemes and cabin layouts, including the type and placement of electrical outlets.)

No itinerary components will be missed as a result of the change in ships, with the possible exception of a 50-minute educational lecture detailing river lock technology.
