Friday, September 21, 2018: Final arrangements

A few days ago, David steered me to an announcement from Tauck concerning the water levels on the Danube. Essentially, the levels are low which could impact our trip. I checked again today and they seem to be updating the announcement daily. Today's announcement was:

WATER LEVELS ON THE DANUBE RIVER
(9/21/18) Conditions along the Danube river remain relatively unchanged, with Europe’s hot, dry summer continuing to cause low water levels in some areas. The situation has improved somewhat with recent rains, although the river is still far below its normal level. These low water levels have the potential to impact our upcoming Danube cruises. Conditions along the river are subject to change with short notice, and to varying degrees, select itineraries may be affected through the coming weeks. Itinerary alterations could be minimal, or more material including additional motor coach travel or other tour adjustments.

Please know that, in conjunction with our European office and our wide network of trusted partners, we are continuously and carefully monitoring conditions along the Danube. Should there be a major itinerary change, we will inform impacted guests as soon as those changes are known and confirmed. All Tauck cruises on Europe’s other rivers are operating normally.

Otherwise, today I got the "final" itinerary from Maxine which nails down the flight arrangements.  Flying to Amsterdam on October 4, I will be on a  Boeing 777-200 non-stop United flight in seat 23C. It is an Economy Plus seat over the wing. Not much of a view, but the flight will start at 4:45pm so we will be flying mostly in the dark. The flight time is supposed to be 9 hours 35 minutes.

The return flight from Budapest on October 21 will be on Lufthansa with one stop in Frankfurt. The long haul from Frankfurt to IAH will be on a Airbus A380-800. They had no upgrade options, so I am in coach, but I will check upon check-in if anything has become available. Maxine was able to get me an isle seat (60H) at the front bulk head which means I'll some some extra leg room.
